Property Taxes

Property taxes are a major issue in the City of Fargo, ND. It is important to understand why property taxes continue to increase so much year after year. The reason is simple: increasing property taxes is the easiest way for the city to cover a budget shortfall. If the city’s budget does not provide sufficient funds, the city shifts the burden onto property taxes. This is wrong and not the proper way to address budget issues.

I propose a new solution: cutting certain areas of the city budget. This would be done in collaboration with the City Commission and financial advisors. We are spending money in areas where we should not be, and those expenses must be reviewed and reduced. This is the best plan and path forward for the city. No budget shortfall means no property tax increases.

The reality is that I cannot do this alone. I need to work with city officials to get this done.
